Summary/Abstract: The treasure of Nagy Szeint Miklos consist of 23 gold vessels (Nos 1-23) with a total weight of 9947.5 and is the property of the Vienna Museum of the Arts and History. The treasure has been studied many times by Bulgarian and foreign scholars, with most of them interpreting the inscriptions on the vessels made by St. Mihailov proves that these are Greek letters but subjected to a rather special stylization. Thus the inscription engraved on vessels Nos 9, 10, 17, 22 and 23 reads “made by Chiron”, which probably was the signature of the master-jeweller who had made the vessels. Another important discovery was that on vessel No.9 together with the Greek circular text were read also the words “the year dilom”. This was the 6th year of the 12-year lunar Proto-Bulgarian calendar which in a documentary manner proves the Proto-Bulgarian origin of the treasury. It cannot be said where it was fashioned and where the workshop of the master-je we Her was but there is no doubt whatever that the treasure from Nagy Szeint Miklos was owned by a well-to-do Proto-Bulgarian of the aristocracy.
