COLOUR AND THE LIST OF NAMES GIVEN BY SHEPHERDS

Summary/Abstract: Certain information obtained from the work on the collective monograph The Lexicon of Shepherding in South-East Serbia is presented in this paper. That monograph is in its final phase, and it is based on the material collected at 39 locations according to Bogdanović’s questionnaire with over 700 questions. The monograph is part of the project Lexicological Research in South-East Serbia, which is conducted under the auspices of the SASA Branch in Niš, under the supervision of Professor Nedeljko Bogdanović, and in coordination with the Academician Aleksandar Loma. As expected, there are layers in that lexicon which appeared out of recognizing colours, the culture of colours, and the linguistic competence of shepherds, keepers and breeders of cattle which are put out to pasture on the common land, mostly on the mountainous crags of Stara Planina and Vlasina.
