Summary/Abstract: The paper presents and analyzes data from a study on innovation activity of SMEs in the southeastern and southwestern regions of Bulgaria. On this basis, the possibilities for implementation of the Lean concept as an innovative system for overall management of the organization and the benefits that it would contribute to the competitiveness of SMEs in Bulgaria are discussed.
