Summary/Abstract: Kordian is a drama with a complex structure, a multilevel text, open to multiple interpretations, depending on the angle of assessment. Beyond ideas deeply rooted in the Polish history and mythology, the text drew the attention of literary critics and historians thanks to its literary value, lexical and imaginative richness, and various poetic and prosodic resources. This article deals with the drama’s structure and meanings, focusing on the causes that contributed to the tragedy and the failure of the main character.
