Summary/Abstract: The delay with efficient market reforms implemented in several post-socialist countries has led to the so-called “state capture” and the formation of an oligarchic economy. An original approach to measuring the level of the economy’s oligarchization in post-socialist countries is proposed. It is shown that the oligarchization index can have a significant negative impact on the quality of economic and political institutions in these countries.
