Summary/Abstract: The Early Christian pictorial system, attested in the monuments from the earliest centuries of the new religion provides important examples of the emergence and development of the symbolic visual language through the scenes and the distinctive images in which messages related to the Holy Sacraments are interpreted. First and foremost, it is the Word of God, which is imbued with symbols, allegories, metaphors, parables and signs with heavily charged connotations. The article is devoted specifically to revealing the code of the meaning of images, their origin and transformation, in direct link with the historical period in which they are created.
