Summary/Abstract: In this work we describe, analyse, and interpret one of Velazquez’s works of art using the guidelines of the Aesthetic, History and Art Criticism, and above all, Antonio Garcia Berrio and Teresa Hernández Fernández’s suggestions that outline a general Poetic of the arts. Our purposes are to convey the theatrical or the spectacular from the creation of this Spanish painter from The Golden Age, an excellent representative of the Full Baroque, and equally to justify the fascination that he exerted over his successors, such as Francisco Goya or Pablo Picasso. Perhaps the explanation resides not only in his painting technique but also in his cosmovision that transforms not only the mythological and historical elements like the natural ones in an artificial universe based on acting and on the presence of the successive scenarios in a continuous space which facilitates the aesthetic communication between the behind and the front, between the represented and the spectator, erasing the limits between the real and the fictitious, between the contemplated and the one who contemplates: one complex metaphor which reveals the triumph of this masterpiece of the elusive time.
