Summary/Abstract: Serghei Dovlatov’s shortstories were collected in a volume entitled “The Suitcase” and were written in the 80s in New York, when their author has already reached his period of artistic maturity. These original stories – ones that one finds “hiding in the creases of tatty clothes,” and which made the content of the one and only piece of luggage he had on him when he emigrated – tell of his life previous to his emigration. The article focuses upon the stylistic characteristics of Dovlatov’s narratives contained in this volume.
