Summary/Abstract: This article aims to outline the challenges before mandatory family mediation in case of establishing signs of domestic violence. The study focuses on some of the established best practices for screening cases for signs of domestic violence and subsequently addressing this violance as part of the mediation procedure or other restorative justice practices. All this is placed in the context of the growing trend for mandatory information and assessment meeting and the implications that the latter would have on victims of domestic violence. The author argues that the transition to a mandatory mediation procedure in family cases would not put victims of domestic violence in a vulnerable position, but on the contrary - is one of the ways to prevent possible escalation of domestic violence.
