Summary/Abstract: In this article, we tried to trace the spread of some motifs associated with India in the writing of the historical Mukachevo diocese, and found some patterns. Interest in life abroad is characteristic of all people, while folk ideas about the world at all times are expressed by the value opposition “friend or foe”, designed to protect a person from the unknown and therefore dangerous world. That is why the legend about cynocephali as people, but different people, turned out to be so widespread in time and space. In addition, in this article we have presented a little-known text of the legend about Tibet or the newly found world, belonging to the literary tradition of the former Mukachevo diocese, created by compiling information from several sources. The choice of individual motifs, events and traditions that the author ascribes to a community unknown to him reflects the range of values characteristic of himself.
