Summary/Abstract: The text puts a focus on the organisational structure of the emblematic Sofia Music Weeks International Festival during the difficult years of its transition from an organisation reliant fully on state funding to a non-profit foundation. The narrative is entirely based on various administrative documents revealing significant details about key transformations and allowing for a close study of the chronology of the events. The period between 1992 and 2006 covers the terms of office of two chairmen of the newly established foundation Sofia Music Weeks International Festival (1992), namely Petar Stupel and Prof. Dimitar Tapkov. During the organisation of the festival’s annual events, they were supported by the Board of Donors, the Management Board and the Supervisory Board. Although in their Statutes the Ministry of Culture and Sofia Municipality are mentioned as main collaborators, their functions have been variable over the years. So has been the assistance of numerous contributors, such as financial institutions (banks), private firms, cultural institutes of various countries and embassies. However, it was the two chairmen’s timely support and concerted efforts that sustained the Sofia Music Weeks Festival in those particularly unstable financial years after the democratic changes at the end of the last century.
