Summary/Abstract: In the context of recent years, the transatlantic partnership, which has been the central engine of a rules-based world order, is facing an acute systemic crisis, caused by political dissensions among members of the North Atlantic Alliance and the hostile attitude of some leaders, which could call into question the status and value of the transatlantic relationship itself. Contrary to international political estimates, after US President Donald Trump took power, most of the tensions and conflicting views emerged between “NATO’s closest allies”, the United States and Germany. These have caused the very good cooperative relationship between the world’s largest military power and Europe’s largest economic power to suffer seriously and lead to the rupture of the “chain of love” that had existed until then. In these circumstances, at a turning point in its existence, the Transatlantic Alliance, which continues to have the support of Germany, one of the advocates of international cooperation based on multilateralism, as well as by other European allies and, according to the statements, including the new leadership that will be installed at the White House early next year, should adapt its principles and institutions to the new challenges of the period in which we live and operate.
