Summary/Abstract: The works of the two authors bring into discussion, from a German perspective, the most important events during World War I on the southeastern front of Europe in the Carpathian-Balkan area.Concerning the struggles in our country, it insists on the first part of the Romanian Army’s participation in hostilities after our entry into the war in 1916, highlighting on one hand the disastrous leadership and lack of experience of the Romanian soldiers, and on the other hand the good organization of the German 9th Army led by the infantry general von Falkenhayn, which led to the occupation by the Central Powers of the Muntenia, Oltenia and Dobrogea provinces and the withdrawal of the leadership of the Romanian state and the army in Moldova. It also highlights the assistance received by the Romanian Army from the French military mission led by General Berthelot. As far as the Serbian war theater is concerned, the failure of the Austro-Hungarian Army in the summer-autumn 1914 campaign was presented, due in particular to the significantly higher battle experience of the Serbian soldiers during the two Balkan wars 1912-1913, and also, the atrocities committed on the Serbian population. Subsequently, after the Bulgarians entered the war on the part of the Central Powers in 1915 and the support of the German forces, the situation changed radically and the Serbs had to withdraw to the island of Korfu, where the army was reorganized, succeeding in regaining the national territory in the autumn of 1918.
