Summary/Abstract: The advancement in technology has led to an obsession with texting. However, through its open violations of grammar, punctuation and eccentric use of short forms, texting has encroached on other formal oral and written forms of communication, violating their very essence. Against this backdrop, my paper has analysed the impact of texting on the acquisition and use of English, among Indian students, as is manifested through violations in grammar, spellings, punctuation, forwards and excessive use of emoticons and short forms. It has also suggested solutions that could help students to acquire, retain and use the English Language effectively.
