Summary/Abstract: The article summarizes the research on educational, social rehabilitation, preventive and readaptation activities carried out by probation officers who enforce judgments in criminal cases. The research team appointed by the Institute of Justice developed a research questionnaire, and then conducted an empirical (file) study on a sample of over 500 completed executive proceedings in criminal cases, in which probation officer supervision had been judged, as well as dogmatic, statistical and comparative analysis accompanied by the results of non-participant observation in the area designated by the subject of the report. The article contains a description of the most significant fragments of these studies, which concern preparation for work, diagnosis, and then an indication of the planning manner, evaluation and selection of methods of rehabilitation work by probation officers for adults. The conducted research shows, inter alia, that the method of casework, generally indicated by practitioners as the dominant one, is not a common method of designing interactions with people under the supervision of a probation officer. It happens that the procedure is carried out in accordance with its assumptions, although it is not characterized in the supervision documentation.
