Summary/Abstract: Pachoras was an important town in mid-5th century AD Nobadia, but its steady urban development was broken by a flood of catastrophic proportions occurring sometime in the beginning of the second half of the 5th century AD. The devastated settlement and so-called Enclosure remained deserted until the close of the 6th century. A sand dune rising 5 m in height accumulated in the meantime inside the enclosure, and it is on this hill that the Cathedral of Aetios, the first of the medieval stone cathedrals of Pachoras, was constructed before the end of the 6th century.
