Names of Catholic prayer groups (on the example of communities of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal)

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to analyse the names given to Catholic prayer communities that address their activities primarily to lay people. The analysis includes 100 names of communities associated under the aegis of the Charismatic Renewal. The description presents their structural, pragmatic and semantic features. The exposed onyms have several purposes, among which the most important is the identifying function. In addition they provide information about the community and its mem¬bers, emphasize the attitude of the meeting participants to God or people who are the subject of religious worship, comprise instructions, evangelistic content and calls for Christian faith. Some of them are a form of prayer and a manifestation of the consti¬tution of reality that we know from biblical accounts.
