Summary/Abstract: Jurist, historian and politician, Eudoxiu Hurmuzaki was born in Cernăuca, Bukovina, on September 29, 1812. His entire life he was involved in the political events of his time and he has permanently sustained the autonomy of Bukovina, attached the Austrian Empire in 1775 and included later in Galicia, as a duchy of the Crown, with rights equal to those of the others lands and kingdoms of the Austrian Empire. As an active participant on the events of 1848 from the capital of Bukovina, Eudoxiu Hurmuzaki has contributed to the drafting of „The Petition of The Country”. In 1949 he was part of the group that presented the Petition to the emperor Franz Joseph, petition that claimed the autonomy of Bukovina and the preserving the national identity of the Romanians. The historian Eudoxiu Hurmuzaki is recognized for the research and the collection of nearly 6.000 document relating the Romanians Countries from the archives of Viena and other Europeans archives. His work has resulted in The Document Collection concerning The Romanians, The Hurmuzaki’s Collection or The Acta Extera, as Nicolas Iorga named it. The library of the Museal Complex „Iulian Antonescu” from Bacău has since 1973 a total of 43 volumes, of wich 32 are documents collected by Eudoxiu Hurmuzaki and the remaining 9 are gathered by Romanians historians who have continued his work.
