Summary/Abstract: The Moderate Liberal Party of Iasi is officially certified in January 1878 but the local newspapers attest its political activity during the elections in April 1877. Romanian historiography assigns M. Kogalniceanu's leadership of the Moderate Liberal Party but in 1878 the party newspaper Steaua României will begin a hostile campaign against the Foreign minister. The Moderate Liberals will try to approach the Liberal government led by I.C. Bratianu approving the foreign policy during the War of Independence and the propaganda for resistance against Russia’s claim on southern of Bessarabia. After the unfavorable decisions for Romania adopted in the Peace Congress in Berlin and the continued collaboration between government and „Fracțiunea liberă și independentă” from Moldavia, the Moderate Liberals will oppose liberal government. Finally, some of them will be attracted into the Government of Bratianu.
