Summary/Abstract: The author presents the main actions of the I.C. Bratianu government during the Oriental crisis culminating in the proclamation of independence and with the participation of the Romanian army in the war against the Ottoman Empire. The Liberal government succeeded in neutralizing the conservative opposition by putting conservatives under parliamentary impeachment. Some liberal ministers were replaced because they supported Romania’s neutrality. Following parliamentary elections, the Parliament was made up of members who supported the active policy of Prime Minister Bratianu. The Government has gained an increase in its political authority to be used during the War of Independence.
