Ukrainian Folklore and Folklore Studies in Times of Globalization

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the role of folklore in preserving the genetic code of the nation. The current condition of the Ukrainian folklore studies is presented. The fundamental projects implemented by the Folklore Department of M. T. Rylskiy Institute of Arts Studies, Folklore Studies and Ethnology at the National Academy of Science of Ukraine are introduced: “Ukrainian National Dumas: in 5 Volumes”; “Ukrainian Folklore Science Encyclopedia: in 2 Volumes”, “The History of Ukrainian Folklore Science: in 3 Volumes”. The Folklore Studies issues are dealt with in the following periodicals: “People’s Creative Work and Ethnography” (Narodna Tvorchist ta Etnographia), “Materials to Ukrainian Ethnology”, “Ethnologic Writing” (Narodozhavchi Zoshyty), “Folklore Studies Writing”, “Ethnology” (Narodoznavstvo), “Mythology and Folklore”.
