Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the mobility and networking of Venetian Counts in Eastern Adriatic cities during the High Middle Ages, especially from the late 13th century to the Peace of Zadar. Individual persons, their service in specific cities, their families and other connections are followed chronologically in order to emphasize the importance of the Count’s office with regard to the political centre as well as the local communities. The paper emphasizes the “supra-local” significance of the Count’s office in the context of comparative research on the urban history of the Eastern Adriatic.
