Summary/Abstract: This paper is aimed to discuss the relation between the size of the education group and preferences of adult learners towards oral/written communication with teachers. According to a survey from 2008 an a sample of 237 subjects, there is a statisticaly significant correlation between the size of a student group and preferences of certain means of communication. Studying at the universities is considered as the most systematic formal professional education and training for young adults, by which they gain qualification, profession and social permission to perform a specific job. Matter of concern is the fact that the increasing number of students in a class minimises their contact with the lecturer, they are usually placed in a position of a listener by the one-way communication and the percentage of actively participating students is reduced. The conclusion points out that it is possible to influence the basic competencies, such as communication, by systematic planning of the teaching process. Hereby the students would be trained not only for successful application of acquired knowledge and skills but also for strengthening their capacity for further education and self-education.
