Summary/Abstract: The village of Darets was in a valley of Arda River, east from Kardzhali where today Studen kladenets dam is located. After its liberation from the Ottoman Empire (1912) and before its flooding by the waters of the dam (1956), it was an administrative centre of the region and the only settlement inhabited by Bulgarians. Nowadays, I try to construct a memoryscape of the village and in my paper, I am going to present how my way is crossing other paths of remembrance and recall. I am starting from the “urgent” research done there just before its flooding, I am going through the memories of its inhabitants and their descendants about village’s “life” after its vanishing, and afterwards, we are visiting the present area of Darets where a chapel under a centuries old oak and a monument of fallen military pilots are located.
