Summary/Abstract: Throughout the article, the author brings forward the main characteristics of intellectual property law touching the pharmaceutical industry, the provisions of European Union (EU) law and the practical arrangements for the protection of medicines and other pharmaceuticals, international and regional bodies involved in the process of registration and protection of patent in the abovementioned field, important statistical aspects of the counterfeiting of medicines and medical devices. The end of the article highlights the EU strategy in the field of protecting pharmaceutical products and objectives of EU institutions specialized in combating such criminal activities.
