Is the Public Library a Factor of Integrating Persons with Disabilities in the Community?

Summary/Abstract: Public libraries have an important part in supporting disadvantaged social groups. Perspectives on public libraries are continuously changing, thus bringing forward new challenges. Such is the one referring to the necessity that public institutions must support the processes of including persons with disabilities. Discrimination can be avoided by correct information of the people and also by educating them, and libraries can here play an important part.Public libraries can play a decisive part in changing the preconceptions regarding the status of the persons with disabilities in Romania, since they are institutions that hold the necessary mechanisms to contribute to the diminishing of their social and educational exclusion.
