MAGICAL REALISM IN THE KIDNAPPED SAINT BY B. TRAVEN

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the short story „The Kidnapped Saint” by B. Traven from the perspective of Magical Realism. The definition and features of Magical Realism will be revised from the existing literature and then applied to the particular case of the short story. Since the definition of magical realism may overlap with those of surrealism, fantasy, and fairy-tale, this paper aims at delimitating the field of Magical Realism based on a concrete case. Plot, characters, objects and various situations in the short story will be analysed.
