Summary/Abstract: The text of songs sung during the holy mass is sometimes modified due to theological, aesthetical and language reasons. The songs used in Czech Catholic circles were after the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965) modified in the contents (shift of theological emphasis from negative motifs to the joyful Christian message), poetics (abandoning of Romantic poetical means based on sensitivity), prosody (change from the syllabic scheme to the syllabotonic one) and language (substitution of archaic and not understandable expressions
