Summary/Abstract: The article presents Polish dialectal names of cornflower in a historical-comparative perspective, thus against the background of Slavonic and European names. The discussed forms come from many dialectal and botanical sources, dictionaries, and atlases. The names are grouped according to their semantic motivation. It can be observed that the studied forms relate to the various characteristics of the species. Sometimes one name can be motivated by two characteristics of the plant. This applies in particular to two-part names. The analysis indicates that the majority are old names. Polish forms have formal-semantic parallels in Slavic languages and convergent semantic motivations in many other European languages.
