Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a partial picture of noun declension in the east part of the East Slovak dialect area, i.e. Zemplín, Soták, and Uh dialects of the former districts of Medzilaborce, Stropkov, Humenné, Snina, Vranov, Michalovce, Sobrance, Trebišov, Veľké Kapušany, and Kráľovský Chlmec. It deals with paradigmatic leveling of gram-matical forms – both within and between paradigms of diff erent declension types (intra-paradigmatic and inter-paradigmatic leveling) – in the development of these dialects in the context of Slovak noun declension as a whole. That is why it focuses mainly on those dialect items which are different from Standard Slovak. The empirical research is based on data excerpted from the archive of the Department of Dialectology in the Ľudovít Štúr Institute of Linguistics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, and from the author’s own fi eld research.
