Summary/Abstract: The study of motivation is a continuous interest for economists and managers. The issue of prosperity level, both objective and subjective perceived, is also a red line of economics. This paper intends to make an analysis of motivation theories in parallel with the finding about the happiness, and perceived well-being. The Maslow’s pyramid of needs, Vroom’s expectancy theory and Herzberg’s hygiene and motivator factors theory were analyzed. The contribution of Ronald Inglehart regarding human satisfaction was also used. The paper argues that the financial motivators have short lives, and the only sustainable ones are the motivators linked with superior needs. We show also that these theories reinforce each others and provide evidences and support that confirms them.
