Summary/Abstract: The immediate source of the economic crisis lay with the US subprime mortgage market. The question remains whether a less aggressive fiscal and monetary policy would in the long run have been better for the economy and the labour market. The story is far from over and in Slovakia, as well as in other countries, a key factor will be where will the jobs be found in the private or the state sector and what will be the implications of this for the economy. The question also remains whether a less aggressive fiscal and monetary policy would in the long run have been better for the economy and the labour market.
