Summary/Abstract: Aiud Football District was founded in 1934, following the problems in the Turda Football District, caused by the economic crisis of 1933-34. The main purpose of this article is to analyze the activity of sports clubs and associations in the Aiud Football District, to illustrate the specifics of the sports movement in the region and its impact on the community. To the data about football we will add information about other sports, to complete the landscape of local sports life. The idea of this article appeared after the discovery of the documents of a generous archive fund of the Aiud Football District existing at the Alba National Archives and of the sports chronicles from a local publication that appeared in Aiud, in the interwar period, and had an almost permanent column dedicated to sports. The study of these sources revealed unique information about the features of sports life in a region that included the cities of Aiud, Turda, Ocna Mureş (Uioara), Câmpia Turzii, Luduş and Sărmaş. The complexity of the realities revealed by this article, from the influence of politics and industrialization on sport, to the existing interethnic problems, demonstrates once again that research dedicated to sport in general and the local one in particular can bring new, interesting and important perspectives on sport.
