Summary/Abstract: The following presentation raises a number of questions about the way(s) how an anthropology of modenity can provide a useful analytical toolfor albanian studies tofurther understanding the role of the national hero in society and culture. Drawing on the work of Domenic Boyerand Claudio Lomnitz (2005) for an “anthropology of the intelectual” and Deborah Poole’s (1997) invitation to understand the “visual economy” of modern societies, the theoritical and empirical outline presented here invites reseachers to investigate the relation between the national hero, the state, intellectual populist ideologies and everyday people in modern Albania.
