Summary/Abstract: Gheorghe Şincai is a proeminent representant of Transylvanian ideological movement known as Şcoala Ardeleană. His role in this movement was very important, because Şincai proved himself to be a very educated man and a very open-minded person. His intelligence made him appreciate and take advantages of all the chances life gave to him: as a student, he learned a lot about history, culture and civilisation; as a librarian, he learned how to work with documents and how to turn them to the best accounts. In this way, he succeeded in writing his masterpiece - Hronica românilor… In fact, Gheorghe Şincai made for Transylvanian culture what the Romanian Academy made for Romanian Countries; as a general manager of Romanian schools from Transylvania, he had the power and spiritual duty to lay the foundation of more than 300 Romanian schools. Through his entire life, activity and writings, Şincai remains a man of his age, some kind of a reference point for Romanian culture.
