Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the nineties, the imperial educational system saw a great prosperity because of the interest manifested by Joseph 2nd in culture development. Transylvania was included in that large cultural movement. During only one decade, Mártonffi Iosif, the supreme manager of Transylvanian schools, succeeded in laying the foundations of more than 65 schools and after him, Şincai, as general manager, founded over 300 schools. By elaborating numerous decrees, the Royal Court tried to convince local communities to get involve in educational activities. According to each place’ s population, the authorities used to establish the teacher salary, number of schools etc. The importance of these schools consists on a better professional preparation of teachers. More than that, a decree from 1774 decided that a teacher could teach only after graduated some kind of a specialized course and an official contest. Unfortunately, after Joseph’ s death, all those decrees were no longer followed. In spite of this situation - only 20 from 376 schools were still functioning - the teacher and the educational system became some kind of a reference point and a certain mean for evolution.
