Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to analyze the place of emotions within the Appraisal system (MARTIN & WHITE 2005). On the basis of the qualitative analysis of online comments from the newspapers Nezavisimaja.ru and Politika Online in Russian and Serbian, as well as on the basis of constructed examples in both languages, we define a relation between the subsystem of emotions and other subsystems within Appraisal.
