Summary/Abstract: Ludvík Svoboda was ready to resign at first, but he was not allowed to do so. And then his health deteriorated so much that, according to members of the Politburo, his resignation would not look truthful. Therefore, a special constitutional law had to be adopted which deprived Svoboda of his office.
