Summary/Abstract: The notion of peace is worth considering in the context of creating world order. It is the result of respecting the natural order. In this regard, attention should be given to proper citizen-authority relations as well as to the relationships between states. Peace remains in close correlation with respecting human dignity as attributable to human beings, and also with equality of all people and states. From this perspective, the protection of human rights and ensuring that citizens are able to fulfil their duties freely is the main objective of state authorities. In order to maintain peace, modern people’s everyday life should be shaped on the basis of truth, justice, love and freedom, the fullest dimension of which is shown by the Christian doctrine. The research presented here defines the system of values of young students of secondary schools in the Świętokrzyskie region, using the Milton Rokeach’s Value Survey (RVS). Particular attention was paid to the value of world at peace, included in the group of terminal values, and, for the sake of completeness, to the value of responsible, which represents the instrumental values. Data indicate that the world at peace occupies a fairly high ninth place in the youth’s hierarchy of values, while the value responsible is placed on a high fourth position on the scale. Given the results obtained, it can be concluded that the analysed values belong to the group of central values, i.e. permanent and not yielding to changes. It should therefore be assumed that the recognition of these values will be reflected in the commitment of young people to broadly-defined building of peace. The young people examined constitute a homogeneous group, i.e. there is no differentiation between them in terms of social characteristics.
