Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to present the strategic challenges facing Polish food economy in the context of key stakeholders − consumers and food producers − farmers and food processors. The leading theme is the problem of threats to the future of Polish agriculture and food quality against the risks posed by genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Out of necessity, a brief analysis of literature in this field, the basic strategic documents and the behavior of many countries, especially EU members, allows for the conclusion that in terms of risks of social, economic and ecological reasons, the most important strategic objective facing Polish food economy is to ban the introduction of GMOs, and the priority is an introduction of the relevant legislation. The ban on GMO crops means also the behavior of the leading traits of quality and export potential of Polish food: organic, regional, and traditional ones.
