Summary/Abstract: The aim of a rised subject was to clarify terms: parental responsibility, divorce and marriage. Author compared and contrasted these intellectual concepts, and concentrated his attention on the impact of divorce and the separation of parents on the child’s psyche and functioning. Divorce is an increasingly common phenomenon in polish society, parental responsibility after the end of the divorce is still appertaining to both parents. When adjudicating a divorce and determining parental authority, the court is guided primarily by the best interests of the child. The question arises: how does the child react to this process, what are the effects of its psyche and, as a result, its social functioning? At every stage of development from birth to adolescence, child experiences the separation of parents in different ways. Child very often blames yourself for the breakdown of the family, and in the end becomes aggressive towards controls and friends. Divorce leads to disorders of the child’s functioning in society, including delay in learning, abuse of narcotic drugs and psychoactive substances. As a result of dilapidation, child has disturbed patterns which often results problems in establishing his own family and periodic functioning.
