Summary/Abstract: The author presented the history of the clash of the final vowels -ę/-e in neuter nouns of the cielę, imię type, with particular attention to the situation in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, when this process came to an end. The linguistic material comes from the Dokładny słownik języka polskiego i ruskiego. The analysis showed that the Polish-Russian part reflects the state of the theoretical norm, as almost all the neuter nouns (72 items) were transferred from the Słownik wileński. The Russian-Polish part, on the other hand, reflects the language use of the time, as the editor was himself choosing Polish equivalents of Russian words. There are far fewer neuter nouns here (33), but 50% of nouns of the imię type and 20% of the cielę type are unstable.
