Co tu zaszło? (‘what has happened’). On the semantic features of the verb zajść (‘to happen’)

Summary/Abstract: The article presents a syntactic-semantic analysis of the language unit zaszło coś (‘something happened’), which is synonymous with zdarzyło się [coś], wydarzyło się [coś]. During the research the author employed the method of formulating hypotheses and verifying them using contradiction tests, substitution tests, an analysis of a typical situation which would be referred to with the given expression, and an analysis of negative language material. The language unit zaszło coś was differentiated from another, formally similar to it – zaszło/zachodzi [coś]. Formal and grammatical differences between them were noted, and a project of the meaning explication of the analyzed language unit was proposed.
