Summary/Abstract: The focus of the article is on the analysis of the media concept with Ulrich Saxer. The term media is very complex and therefore very difficult to describe and to distinguish from other disciplines or specialist areas. Media should therefore not only be viewed as a technical means or as an intermediary, but as a collective term that encompasses the connection between its technical and its social character. Saxer sees media communication as a total social phenomenon that affects every change of the overall system. It is therefore difficult to define the term media and to distinguish media studies from other sciences.
