National Parliaments regarding the Conference on the Future of Europe

Summary/Abstract: The Conference on the Future of Europe was launched on 9 May 2021, after the Presidents of the European Parliament, the EU Council and the Commission signed a joint declaration clarifying its final shape and mandate. The aim of the Conference is to create a space for debate with citizens, especially young people, on the shape of the European project and thus strengthen its democratic legitimacy. Conclusions are to be drawn up by spring 2022 and the EU institutions have committed themselves to putting them into practice. National parliaments have been actively involved in the discussions on the Conference concept and subsequently in its work.
