Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze how cultural politics worked in the Hungarian department of the theatre in Oradea during the 1980s. By doing so, we would like to track Áron Tamási’s play (Archaic Consolation) from “page to stage” in 1982 across the labyrinth of communist censorship. At the end of the track memories of the ethnic Hungarian public are presented. These narratives reveal, that the play became an important tool, which made possible to talk about ethnic Hungarian minority identity, a subject marginalized in Ceaușescu’s Romania.
