Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyze the impact of AI on smart cities, in the context of technological evolution, AI applications providing opportunities for automation and efficiency for their infrastructure and services. However, we cannot ignore the potential for negative implications during the development and implementation of AI, which can lead, for example, to discrimination in the provision of services or to the violation of the right to privacy. As such, a negative example would be China's social rating system, with large-scale surveillance proving to be problematic, as long as it lacks any guarantees to ensure citizens' rights and freedoms.
