Summary/Abstract: One of the overarching issues raised in the considerations presented in this article is defining the role of grammar in the process of controlled foreign language learning. The aim of this study is to show the supporting role of the mother tongue in teaching grammar, and to illustrate the didactic potential of language acquisition based on interlingual contrasts. The practical part presents the procedures used in Polish-Russian contrastive practical grammar classes in order to prevent the occurrence of interference errors. The examples of selected bilingual techniques based on translation exercises allows us to see areas of potential linguistic interference. This article emphasises the need to acquire the knowledge necessary to identify and eliminate possible errors in the process of translating into Russian, and to orientate future translators in the issues of correctness in a foreign language.
