Summary/Abstract: The Baltic Sea Region comprises an area of approximately 1,676,024 km2, which in 2011 was inhabited by 146,953,922 people. Thus 87.7 people lived in one square kilometre. The purpose of this article is a demographic analysis of selected aspects of the socio-economic situation of the population in the BSR in 2001–2011, as well as the presentation of the index of the study area potential based on the Human Development Index.
