Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is a comparative study of the Polish language of two students of Arabic origin who attend one of the high schools in Lodz. The comparison was made from two perspectives – from the perspective of the teacher of Polish as a native language and the perspective of the teacher of Polish as a second language. For this purpose, the author used the examination essays written by students during Polish language lessons, for the assessment of which the criteria for the matura exam were used (criteria applicable from 2015). These results were embedded in a linguistic perspective, taking into account the knowledge of language subsystems. However, it is the assessment of the Polish language of students in accordance with the criteria of the matura exam that is important because this exam (not the exam in Polish as a foreign language) is the goal of the students.
